Yoga for
Anxiety & Depression
Mon / Thu at 7:30 - 9:00 pm
RSVP - ASAP
Max 10 people allowed.
We
are going to utilize variety of yoga techniques, from movement to
meditation, pranayama, visualizations, and much more...to help you
reconnect with the joy and peace of being and living.
No yoga experience is necessary. Commitment and participation in all
classes will improve results. Movements and postures are chosen in
order to develop mindfulness and attention to the present moment,
and not from a workout perspective.
According to the April, 2009 issue of the Harvard Mental Health
Letter, "by reducing perceived stress and anxiety, yoga appears to
modulate stress response systems. This, in turn, decreases
physiological arousal - for example, reducing the heart rate,
lowering blood pressure, and easing respiration." "There is also
evidence that yoga helps increase heart rate variability, an
indicator of the body's flexibility in responding to stress,"
Harvard reported.
In several studies in recent years, yoga has been found to improve
mood and reduce medication in people suffering from depression and
anxiety regardless of the reason. Whether cancer, or chronic
illness, trauma, or loss and grief, yoga has been shown to improve
mood, foster a sense of well being, decrease anxiety, chronic
fatigue, sadness, and much more to the tune of 65 - 73% better than
traditional therapies alone.
Instructor: Valentina Petrova (see
bio)
HMC Members receive 10
points for each class for a total of 80 points.
