I have been a consistent student of yoga for around five years and a yoga teacher since 2009, the year I completed a teacher training at Neignborhood Yoga, Boone, NC. I was first drawn to yoga about nine years ago, not by the enticing beauty of complex poses but instead by three simple words – set your intention. These words are reiterated in many a yoga class, but they always resonated with me. Even when life was hectic and spinning out of control, I could enter my yoga studio and not gain control over anything, but instead focus my intent and enjoy being in the singular space of the moment. There was something expansive and solitary, calming and invigorating, uplifting and grounding, profound and ordinary about the process – a combination of binaries I’d never before experienced. My curiosity eventually led me to pursue a teacher training, less to become a teacher and more as a way to gain a better understanding of this ancient practice that I found so inspiring. But once my training was over, I realized my desire to share what I had learned was too overwhelming to ignore.
